Acical 500 

Presentation: Tablets containing Calcium Carbonate BP 1.25 g equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium. Available in strips. Manufactured by The ACME Laboratories Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate BP 1.25 g (equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium).

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, and hypoparathyroidism. It is also used as a supplement during periods of increased calcium requirements, such as growth spurts, pregnancy, and lactation. Additionally, it can be used as a phosphate binder in patients with chronic renal failure and as an antacid for the temporary relief of indigestion.

Dosage & Administration:

• As a calcium supplement: Adults: 1 to 2 tablets daily, or as directed by a physician. Children: Dosage should be determined by a physician based on age and needs.
• As an antacid: Adults: As needed, usually 1 to 2 tablets chewed or swallowed with water.

Side Effects: May cause mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation or stomach upset. Hypercalcaemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) is rare with oral calcium alone but may occur with high doses, especially in individuals with kidney problems.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine), and nephrolithiasis (kidney stones). Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, sarcoidosis, and in patients taking cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin). May interfere with the absorption of certain medications, such as tetracycline antibiotics and iron supplements; it is advisable to separate the administration of these drugs by several hours.
