Acical-D 

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP (from Oyster Shell) equivalent to either 500 mg or 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 BP 200 IU or 400 IU (as Cholecalciferol), depending on the specific formulation available in Bangladesh.

Indications: Acical-D is indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiency, which can occur in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and rickets. It is also used as a supplement to ensure adequate calcium intake during periods of increased demand, including childhood growth, pregnancy, and lactation, as well as in elderly individuals with poor dietary intake or absorption. It may also be used as an adjunct in the management of hypoparathyroidism and tetany.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is one to two tablets daily, preferably with or after a meal to enhance calcium absorption, or as directed by a physician. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water. The dosage for children should be determined by a healthcare professional based on their age and specific needs.

Side Effects: Calcium supplements are generally well-tolerated. However, some individuals may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, or stomach upset. In rare cases, hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood) may occur, especially with prolonged use of high doses. Symptoms of hypercalcemia may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination.

Precautions: Acical-D is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, renal calculi (kidney stones), nephrolithiasis, and hypervitaminosis D. Caution should be exercised in patients with pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease. Concurrent use with other medications such as digoxin, thiazide diuretics, other calcium supplements, calcitriol or other Vitamin D3 supplements, and certain antibiotics (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, oxytetracycline) may lead to interactions.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
