Acipam 5

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Escitalopram 5 mg (as Escitalopram Oxalate INN).

Indications: Acipam is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It may also be used for the treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Dosage & Administration: The usual initial dose for adults is 10 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily. For panic disorder, the initial dose is 5 mg once daily for the first week, then increased to 10 mg daily, with a maximum of 20 mg daily. For social anxiety disorder, the usual dose is 10 mg once daily, which may be adjusted between 5 and 20 mg daily based on response. In elderly patients, the initial dose is 5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 10 mg daily. Acipam can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, insomnia, ejaculation disorder, somnolence, increased sweating, and fatigue. Most side effects are mild and transient.

Precautions: Acipam should be used with caution in patients with a history of mania or seizure disorders, and in patients with significant hepatic or renal impairment. It should not be used in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or pimozide. Caution is advised in patients with a history of bleeding disorders or those taking medications that affect hemostasis. Monitor for clinical worsening and suicidal tendencies, especially during the initial months of therapy or at times of dose changes.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: The safety of Escitalopram during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential¹ risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when² administering Acipam to nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions: Acipam should not be started until 2 weeks after stopping an MAOI, and an MAOI should not be started until at least one week after stopping Acipam. Concomitant use with pimozide is contraindicated. Caution is advised with other serotonergic drugs, drugs affecting hemostasis, and alcohol.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
