Adiponil 120

Presentation: Each capsule contains Orlistat BP 120 mg. Available in strips.

Indications: Adiponil (Orlistat) is indicated for obesity management including weight loss and weight maintenance when used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet. Orlistat is also indicated to reduce the risk of weight regain after prior weight loss.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Adiponil is one 120 mg capsule three times a day with each main meal containing fat. It should be taken during the meal or up to one hour after the meal. If a meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose of orlistat should be omitted. Doses above 120 mg three times a day have not been shown to provide additional benefit.

Side Effects: The most common side effects of orlistat are gastrointestinal related and are a result of the drug preventing the absorption of some of the fat in the diet. These include oily spotting, flatulence with discharge, fecal urgency, fatty/oily stool, increased defecation, and fecal incontinence. These side effects are often mild and transient and may lessen with continued treatment and adherence to a low-fat diet.

Precautions: Adiponil is contraindicated in patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome, cholestasis, and known hypersensitivity to orlistat or any of its components. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus as weight loss may improve glycemic control, potentially requiring adjustments in antidiabetic medication dosage. Patients should be advised to adhere to a diet low in fat (less than 30% of calories from fat) to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Orlistat may reduce the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and beta-carotene; therefore, multivitamin supplementation may be considered. Orlistat may also interact with certain medications, such as warfarin and cyclosporine.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
