Indications
Adora treats bacterial infections including:

Pharmacology
Cefadroxil inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan assembly and causing cell death.

Dosage & Administration
Streptococcal Infections:

  • Adults/Adolescents (>40 kg): 1000 mg once daily â‰Ĩ10 days

  • Children (<40 kg): 30 mg/kg/day once daily â‰Ĩ10 days

Other Infections:

  • Adults/Adolescents (>40 kg): 1000 mg twice daily

  • Children (<40 kg): 30–35 mg/kg/day in divided doses
    *Max: 4 g/day; 500 mg tablets not recommended <6 years*

Renal Impairment:

  • CrCl 50–25 ml/min: 500–1000 mg every 12 hr

  • CrCl 25–10 ml/min: 500–1000 mg every 24 hr

  • CrCl 10–0 ml/min: 500–1000 mg every 36 hr
    Not indicated for children with renal insufficiency

Hemodialysis: Additional 500–1000 mg post-dialysis
*Take with/without food; duration: Continue 2–3 days after symptom resolution*

Interaction

  • Prolongs prothrombin time with anticoagulants (bleeding risk)

  • Probenecid reduces elimination

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, severe penicillin/beta-lactam reactions. Avoid with bacteriostatic antibiotics, aminoglycosides, or nephrotoxic agents.

Side Effects

  • Common: Nausea, diarrhea, rash, abdominal pain

  • Serious: Pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome

  • Hematologic: Eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia

  • Renal: Interstitial nephritis

Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited safety data; low concentrations in breast milk. Use strictly under medical supervision.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitor blood counts, renal/hepatic function during prolonged use

  • Discontinue if allergic reactions or severe diarrhea occur

  • Use cautiously in penicillin-allergic patients, renal impairment, or colitis history

Overdose Effects
Possible nausea, hallucinations, renal impairment, or neurological symptoms (hyperreflexia, coma).
