Presentation: Ajardy 10 Tablet contains Empagliflozin 10 mg as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is presented as a tablet for oral administration and is usually available in blister packs.
Indications: Ajardy is indicated in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter-2(SGLT2) inhibitor, working by removing excess sugar from the body through urine.
Dosage and Administration: The recommended starting dose of Ajardy is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food. In patients tolerating this dose, it may be increased to 25 mg once daily. The dosage should be determined by the physician. In patients with volume depletion, correcting this condition prior to initiation of Ajardy is recommended.
Side Effects: The most common side effects associated with Ajardy include urinary tract infections and female genital mycotic infections (vaginal yeast infections). Other common side effects may include increased thirst, nausea, increased urination (polyuria), and genital fungal infections in both males and females. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can occur when used with other antidiabetic medicines. Dehydration and low blood pressure are also potential side effects.
Precautions: Ajardy is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to empagliflozin or any of its ingredients, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease,or those on dialysis. Assessment of renal function is recommended prior to initiation of Ajardy and periodically thereafter. It is not recommended for use in patients with an eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m². Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of urinary tract infections or genital infections. Adequate hydration should be maintained during treatment. The use of Ajardy during pregnancy and breastfeeding is generally not recommended.
Storage: Store Ajardy 10 tablets in a cool and dry place (below 30°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
