Alcet is used to alleviate symptoms related to allergic conditions, including:
Perennial allergic rhinitis
Seasonal allergic rhinitis
Chronic idiopathic urticarial
Please use this medicine only as directed by a registered healthcare provider.
Alcet contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride, which is the active (Levo) isomer of cetirizine. Levocetirizine is a highly effective, non-sedating antihistamine known for its strong anti-allergic effects. It exhibits twice the binding affinity for H1 receptors compared to cetirizine, providing potent relief from allergy symptoms. Its rapid and prolonged action allows it to be taken once a day for convenience.
Adults and children 12 years and older: The recommended dosage is 5 mg once daily.
Children 6 to 11 years: The recommended dose is 2.5 mg (½ tablet or 1 teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
Children 6 months to 5 years: The recommended dose is 1.25 mg (½ teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
For pediatric use, the recommended dose for treating uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria in children aged 6 months to 17 years is based on efficacy data from adults aged 18 and older.
For geriatric patients, clinical studies did not include enough individuals aged 65 years and above to determine whether they respond differently than younger patients.
For patients with hepatic impairment, no dosage adjustments are needed if liver function is solely compromised.
Mild (creatinine clearance 50-80 ml/min): 2.5 mg once daily.
Moderate (creatinine clearance 30-50 ml/min): 2.5 mg every other day.
Severe (creatinine clearance 10-30 ml/min): 2.5 mg twice weekly (every 3-4 days).
For end-stage renal disease (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min) and patients undergoing hemodialysis: Levocetirizine should not be administered.
Use as per the guidance of a registered healthcare provider.
Alcet is not known to interact with other medications.
This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine. Patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min) should avoid taking Levocetirizine.
Levocetirizine is generally well tolerated, though some users may experience rare side effects like headaches, dry mouth, fatigue, or skin rashes.
Levocetirizine is categorized under Pregnancy Category B. There are no adequate studies in pregnant women, so it should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. As Levocetirizine is excreted into breast milk, it is not recommended for use by breastfeeding mothers.
Levocetirizine should be used with caution in individuals with a history of seizures or who are at risk for convulsions. Special care is needed for patients with renal issues, and during pregnancy or lactation.
No significant adverse effects have been reported in cases of overdose. However, if an overdose occurs, supportive and symptomatic treatment is recommended.
