Algecal-DX 

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (from Algae source) equivalent to either 500 mg or 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) 200 IU or 400 IU, depending on the specific formulation available in Bangladesh.

Indications: Algecal-DX is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. It is also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate calcium intake during childhood, pregnancy, and lactation, as well as in rickets and poor calcium absorption in old age. Other indications include its use as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure and during therapy with anti-seizure medications. It is also indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiency.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is one tablet once or twice daily, preferably with or after a meal to enhance absorption, or as directed by a physician. The tablet should be swallowed whole with plenty of water. The specific dosage depends on the strength of the tablet and the individual's needs.

Side Effects: Rarely, patients may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as flatulence, diarrhea, or constipation. Hypercalcemia due to prolonged use has been reported in rare instances.

Precautions: Algecal-DX is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, metastatic calcification, and hypersensitivity to any of its components. Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, sarcoidosis, and existing hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria. Concurrent use with other medications such as bisphosphonates, certain antibiotics (quinolones, tetracyclines), iron preparations, levothyroxine, and thiazide diuretics may lead to interactions, requiring careful monitoring and timing of doses.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
