Algeum-DX 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets available in strips or blister packs. Manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. Available in strengths of Calcium 500mg with Vitamin D3 200 IU, and Calcium 600mg with Vitamin D3 400 IU.

Ingredients:

• Algeum-D (500mg + 200 IU): Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) BP 1250 mg equivalent to elemental Calcium 500 mg, and Vitamin D3 200 IU as Cholecalciferol.
• Algeum-DX (600mg + 400 IU): Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) BP 1500 mg equivalent to elemental Calcium 600 mg, and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate intake of Calcium, such as in childhood, during pregnancy and lactation, and in elderly patients. Other indications include use in kidney disease, pancreatitis, and during therapy with antiseizure medications. It is used for the prevention and treatment of Calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiency.

Dosage & Administration:

• Algeum-D (500mg + 200 IU): Usually 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet at night.
• Algeum-DX (600mg + 400 IU): Usually 1 tablet once or twice daily. The tablets should be taken orally, preferably with or after meals to ensure better absorption. Follow the physician's instructions.

Side Effects: Rarely, patients may experience flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, or upper gastrointestinal discomfort. Hypercalcaemia due to prolonged use has been reported in rare cases.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components, hypercalcaemia resulting from overdose of Vitamin D3, hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, severe renal insufficiency, severe hypercalciuria, and renal calculi. Caution should be taken in patients with mild hypercalciuria, mild to moderate renal impairment, and during long-term use, where monitoring of plasma and serum Calcium levels may be needed. Patients with a history of renal stones should also take precautions.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
