Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Sodium Bicarbonate BP 600 mg.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment of metabolic acidosis, which can occur in conditions such as severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory insufficiency due to shock, severe dehydration, and primary lactic acidosis. It is also used to alkalinize urine to promote the excretion of certain drugs (e.g., aspirin, phenobarbital) and in the management of uric acid stones. May also be used as an antacid for the relief of heartburn and indigestion.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage depends on the severity of the condition and the patient's response, as determined by a physician.

• For metabolic acidosis: Dosage is individualized based on blood pH, serum bicarbonate levels, and the patient's clinical condition.
• For urinary alkalinization: Dosage is adjusted to achieve the desired urine pH.
• As an antacid: The usual adult dose is one to two tablets as needed. The tablets are usually taken orally with water.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include belching, flatulence, and gastric irritation. Excessive use can lead to systemic alkalosis, which may manifest as irritability, muscle twitching, tetany, and slow and shallow breathing. Fluid retention and hypernatremia (high sodium levels) may also occur.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with metabolic alkalosis, respiratory acidosis, hypocalcemia, and in patients with excessive chloride loss from vomiting or continuous gastrointestinal suction. Use with caution in patients with congestive heart failure, edema, renal insufficiency, and hypertension due to the sodium content. May interact with certain medications, including salicylates, tetracyclines, lithium, and sympathomimetics. Antacids containing aluminum or calcium should be taken 1-2 hours apart from sodium bicarbonate.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
