Presentation:Aloglip 12.5 is presented as film-coated tablets containing 12.5mg of alogliptin (as alogliptin benzoate). The tablets are usually available in blister packs.
Indications:Alogliptin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with otherglucose-lowering medications, including metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin.
Dosage and Administration:The recommended dose of alogliptin is 25 mg once daily. However, for patients with moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≥ 30 to ≤ 50 mL/min), the dose is 12.5 mg once daily. For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min) or end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis, the dose is 6.25 mg once daily.
Aloglip can be taken with or without food, once daily, at the same time each day.Follow your doctor's specific instructions regarding the dosage and timing of Aloglip.
Side Effects:Common side effects reported with alogliptin include nasopharyngitis, headache, and upper respiratory tract infection. When used in combination with other antidiabetic agents, the side effect profile may differ, with an increased risk of hypoglycemia when used with sulfonylureas or insulin.
Tell your doctor promptly if you experience any unusual or severe side effects, including symptoms of pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), or liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes). Severe joint pain and skin blistering (bullous pemphigoid) have also been reported.
Precautions:Alogliptin is contraindicated in patients with a history of a serious hypersensitivity reaction to alogliptin or any of the excipients.
Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, heart failure, a history of pancreatitis, and liver disease. When used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, a lower dose of these medications may be required to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia.
Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, as there may be potential drug interactions.
The safety and efficacy of alogliptin in children under 18 years have not been established. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only occur if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Storage: Store Aloglip tablets in a dry place, away from light and heat, below 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
