Aloglip 25 

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet of Aloglip 25 contains Alogliptin Benzoate INN equivalent to Alogliptin 25 mg.

Indications: Aloglip is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other glucose-lowering medications such as metformin, thiazolidinediones, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Aloglip is 25 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food. In patients with moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≥ 30 to < 50 mL/min), the dose is 12.5 mg once daily. In patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min) or end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis, the dose is 6.25 mg once daily. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. A double dose should not be taken on the same day.

Side Effects: Common side effects reported with alogliptin include nasopharyngitis, headache, and upper respiratory tract infection. When alogliptin is used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may be increased. Less common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances. Postmarketing reports have included serious hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylaxis, angioedema, and severe cutaneous adverse reactions), hepatic failure (sometimes fatal), and pancreatitis.

Precautions: Aloglip is contraindicated in patients with a history of a serious hypersensitivity reaction to alogliptin. If pancreatitis is suspected, Aloglip should be promptly discontinued. Caution should be exercised when Aloglip is used in combination with insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas) or insulin, as a lower dose of the insulin secretagogue or insulin may be required to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor for signs and symptoms of hepatic injury; if detected, interrupt Aloglip and assess for the cause.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
