Alprax XR 2 Tablet

Presentation:Each extended-release tablet contains 2 mg of Alprazolam. 

Indications: Alprax XR is indicated for the treatment of:

• Panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults.  
• Anxiety disorder.  
• Short-term relief of anxiety symptoms.
• Anxiety associated with depression.

Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine that is believed to work by enhancing the effects of a natural brain chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Alprax XR should be individualized by your doctor to avoid excessive sedation and mental or motor impairment.

• The usual starting dose for panic disorder is 0.5 mg to 1 mg once daily, preferably in the morning.  
• The dose may be increased gradually based on your response and tolerability, with a maximum dose of 10 mg per day in some cases.  
• For anxiety disorders, the initial dose for adults is typically 0.5 mg once daily.

Alprax XR tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed, crushed, or broken. Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as withdrawal symptoms can occur. 

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness  
• Depression
• Headache  
• Constipation
• Dry mouth
• Light-headedness  
• Memory problems  
• Fatigue  
• Slurred speech  

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It is important to inform your doctor immediately if you experience any unusual or severe side effects, such as changes in mood or behavior, hallucinations, seizures, or difficulty breathing. 

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, including liver or kidney disease, breathing problems, a history of seizures, or substance abuse.
• Alprax XR may cause drowsiness and impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. Use caution until you know how this medication affects you. 
• Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Alprax XR, as it can intensify its sedative effects.  
• Alprax XR can be habit-forming and should be used exactly as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or take it for longer than recommended. 
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as alprazolam can harm a developing fetus or nursing infant.  

Contraindications: Alprax XR is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to alprazolam or other benzodiazepines.  
• Acute narrow-angle glaucoma.
• Pre-existing central nervous system depression or coma.
• Severe respiratory depression.
• Myasthenia gravis.

Drug Interactions:Alprax XR can interact with various medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. Significant interactions can occur with: 

• Other CNS depressants, such as opioids, other benzodiazepines, and alcohol.  
• Certain antidepressants.
• Anticonvulsants.
• Antihistamines.
• Oral contraceptives.
• Certain antifungal medications (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole).  

Storage: Store below 30°C (86°F), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
