Amilin 25

Presentation: Each tablet contains Amitriptyline Hydrochloride BP 25 mg. Available in strips or blister packs, with the number of tablets per pack determined by the manufacturer in Bangladesh.

Indications: Amilin (Amitriptyline) is indicated for the treatment of depressive illness, particularly when sedation is required. It is also used in the management of nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in children, for the prophylaxis of migraine, and in the treatment of tension headaches and chronic pain.

Dosage and Administration:

• Depression: For adults, the initial dose is usually 50-75 mg daily, given as a single dose at night or in divided doses. Elderly patients and adolescents may start with 25-50 mg daily. The dose can be gradually increased as needed, up to a maximum of 150-200 mg per day. The usual maintenance dose is 50-100 mg daily.
• Nocturnal Enuresis (in children): For children aged 7-10 years, the dose is 10-20 mg at bedtime. For children aged 11-16 years, the dose is 25-50 mg at bedtime, for a maximum period of 3 months, followed by gradual withdrawal.
• Prophylaxis of Migraine: The usual dose is 100 mg daily.
• Tension Headache: The usual dose is 10-25 mg three times daily.

Amilin tablets are administered orally. It is often recommended to take the daily dose at night due to the sedative effects of amitriptyline. Dosage should be strictly followed as prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, and increased heart rate. Other potential side effects can include urinary retention, confusion, weight gain, and changes in blood pressure. Patients should consult their doctor if they experience any persistent or troublesome side effects.

Precautions: Amilin is contraindicated in patients with recent myocardial infarction, arrhythmias (particularly heart block), mania, and severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of epilepsy, glaucoma, urinary retention, cardiac disease, diabetes, pregnancy, hepatic impairment, thyroid disease,¹and increased intraocular pressure. It may enhance the sedative effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants. Due to its sedative properties, it may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Storage: Store Amilin 25 mg tablets in a cool and dry place, below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
