Presentation: Amotrex, available in Bangladesh, is a brand name for products containing Metronidazole. It is available in various formulations, including tablets (200 mg, 400 mg, 800 mg), oral suspension (200 mg/5 ml), and intravenous infusion (500 mg/100 ml). The specific formulation and strength will be indicated on the product packaging.

Indications: Amotrex (Metronidazole) is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. These include:

• Intestinal and extra-intestinal amoebiasis.
• Trichomoniasis.
• Giardiasis.
• Bacterial vaginosis.
• Anaerobic bacterial infections such as septicemia, bacteremia, peritonitis, and certain post-operative infections.
• Acute ulcerative gingivitis.
• Anaerobically infected leg ulcers and pressure sores.
• Acute dental infections.
• Helicobacter pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy).
• Prevention of post-operative anaerobic infections.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage and route of administration (oral or intravenous) depend on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the patient's age and weight.

• Tablets/Suspension: Oral formulations are usually taken with or after meals. The suspension should be shaken well before use. Follow the physician's instructions regarding the dose and duration of treatment.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Amotrex (Metronidazole) may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, a metallic taste in the mouth, headache, and abdominal discomfort. Less frequent side effects can include dizziness, drowsiness, loss of appetite, and skin rash. Darkening of urine may also occur.

Precautions: Amotrex (Metronidazole) is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment and for at least one day after, due to the risk of a disulfiram-like reaction.
