Anset 8

Presentation: Each tablet contains 8 mg of Ondansetron. 

Indications: Anset 8 is indicated for the prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with:

  • Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
  • Radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV)
  • Postoperative 1 nausea and vomiting (PONV) 

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dosage should be determined by the treating physician based on the specific indication and the patient's condition.
  • Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:
    • Adults: The usual dose is 8 mg administered orally 1-2 hours before chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg every 12 hours for 1-2 days after chemotherapy.
    • Children (4-11 years): The usual dose is 4 mg administered orally 30 minutes before chemotherapy, followed by 4 mg every 8 hours for 1-2 days after chemotherapy.
  • Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:
    • Adults: The usual dose is 8 mg administered orally 1-2 hours before radiotherapy.
  • Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting:
    • Adults: The usual dose is 16 mg administered orally one hour before anesthesia, or 8 mg administered orally shortly before anesthesia followed by two 8 mg doses at eight-hour intervals.
    • Children (over 2 years): The usual dose is 0.1 mg/kg body weight (up to a maximum of 4 mg) administered orally shortly before anesthesia, followed by one or two subsequent doses.

Anset 8 tablets can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness

Less common side effects may include:

  • Fever
  • Dry mouth
  • Abdominal pain
  • Transient elevations in liver enzymes
  • In rare cases, serious allergic reactions or heart rhythm problems may occur.

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to ondansetron or other similar medications (e.g., granisetron, palonosetron).
  • Use with caution in patients with liver problems or a history of heart rhythm disorders.
  • Ondansetron may mask progressive ileus and/or gastric distension in postoperative patients.
  • The safety of Anset 8 during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if clearly needed and the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
  • Ondansetron passes into breast milk. Caution should be exercised when Anset 8 is administered to a breastfeeding woman.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
