APN IV 1000ml

Presentation: A sterile intravenous infusion solution in a 1000ml plastic bag. Typically contains Dextrose Monohydrate equivalent to Dextrose Anhydrous BP [Specify percentage, e.g., 5% or 10%] and Sodium Chloride BP [Specify percentage, e.g., 0.9% or 0.225%] in Water for Injection BP. Manufactured by OSL Pharma Limited or other pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh.

Indications: APN IV Infusion is indicated for:

  • Fluid and electrolyte replacement.
  • Provision of dextrose as a source of carbohydrate.
  • Maintenance of fluid balance in patients who are unable to take fluids and nutrients orally (e.g., during and after surgery, in cases of persistent vomiting, shock, or accidents).
  • Short-term fluid replacement after trauma.
  • Treatment of combined water and sodium depletion.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage and rate of infusion depend on the patient's clinical condition, age, body weight, and overall fluid and electrolyte requirements. It should be administered intravenously by a healthcare professional using sterile equipment. The solution should be inspected visually for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration. Do not use if the solution is cloudy or contains particles.

Side Effects: Reactions that may occur due to the solution or the technique of administration include:

  • Febrile response (fever)
  • Infection at the site of injection
  • Venous thrombosis or phlebitis extending from the site of injection
  • Extravasation (leakage of fluid into surrounding tissues)
  • Hypervolemia (fluid overload)
  • Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), especially in diabetic patients
  • Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypernatremia or hyponatremia)

If an adverse reaction occurs, the infusion should be discontinued, the patient evaluated, and appropriate treatment initiated.

Precautions:

  • Use with caution in patients with congestive heart failure, peripheral or pulmonary edema, impaired renal function, or pre-eclampsia due to the sodium chloride content.
  • Monitor serum glucose concentration carefully in diabetic patients; concurrent use of insulin may be required.
  • Solutions containing dextrose may be contraindicated in patients with known allergy to corn or corn products.
  • Infusion should be stopped immediately if rigor (shivering) develops for any reason.
  • Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult a healthcare professional before use.
  • Monitor electrolyte levels during prolonged infusion.

Storage: Store in a cool place. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Use only if the solution is clear and the container is undamaged. Discard any unused portion.
