Presentation: Each capsule contains Aprepitant 40 mg. Aproxi is a brand name marketed by Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh. It is usually available in blister packs.
Indications: Aproxi (Aprepitant) is indicated in adults for the prevention of:
Dosage and Administration: The recommended oral dosage of Aproxi for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting is 40 mg administered within 3 hours prior to the induction of anesthesia.
Aproxi may be taken with or without food. No dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients.
Side Effects: Common side effects reported with Aproxi 40 mg for PONV are not extensively documented as it is often used as a single dose. However, side effects generally associated with Aprepitant (at higher doses used for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting) include:
Precautions: Aproxi (Aprepitant) is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of the product.
Aprepitant is a substrate, a weak-to-moderate (dose-dependent) inhibitor, and an inducer of CYP3A4. Aproxi is also an inducer of CYP2C9. Precautions should be taken whileco-administering Aproxi with drugs that use CYP3A4 or CYP2C9, for example: Warfarin, Tolbutamide, Phenytoin, Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Nefazodone, Troleandomycin, Clarithromycin, Ritonavir, Nelfinavir, Diltiazem, Rifampin, Carbamazepine,etc.
The efficacy of hormonal contraceptives may be reduced during and for 28 days following the last dose of Aproxi. Alternative or back-up methods of contraception should be used during treatment with Aproxi and for 1 month following the last dose of Aproxi.
Cautionshould be exercised in patients with hepatic impairment. There are no clinical data in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Aproxi. Please consult your doctor.
Aproxi may decrease alertness, affect your vision, or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how Aproxi affects you.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:Pregnancy Category B. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, basedon the importance of the drugto the mother.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
