Aptin 50

Presentation: Aptin 50 is presented as tablets, each containing 50mg of vildagliptin. The tablets are usually available in blister packs. The appearance (shape, color, markings) of the tablets may vary depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (e.g., ACI Limited).

Indications: Aptin (vildagliptin) is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used:

  • As monotherapyin patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to contraindications or intolerance.
  • In dual combination with metformin, a sulfonylurea, a thiazolidinedione, or insulin when diet, exercise, and a single antidiabetic agent do not result in adequateglycemic control.

Dosage and Administration:   The recommended dose of Aptin is 50 mg once or twice daily, depending on the combination therapy.

  • Monotherapy: 50 mg or 100 mg once daily.
  • Dual combination with metformin or a thiazolidinedione: 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening).
  • Dual combination with a sulfonylurea: 50 mg once daily in the morning.
  • Dual combination with insulin: 50 mg once daily in the morning.

Aptin may be taken with or without food. Follow your doctor's specific instructions regarding the dosage and timing of Aptin. No dosage adjustment is required in elderly patients or in patients with mild renal impairment.

Side Effects: The majority of adverse reactions reported with vildagliptin are mild and transient. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, nausea, and upper respiratory tract infection. When used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Tell your doctor promptly if you experience any unusual or severe side effects, including symptoms of pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), or any signs of liver problems (jaundice, dark urine).

Precautions: Aptin (vildagliptin) is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to vildagliptin or any of the excipients, and in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or hepatic impairment (pretreatment ALT or AST >3 times the upper limit of normal). It is also contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes.

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of heart failure. When used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, a lower dose of these medications may be required to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia.

Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, as there may be potential drug interactions.

The safety and efficacy of vildagliptin in children under 18 years have not been established. Aptin should not be used during pregnancy or lactation unless clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

Storage: Store Aptin tablets in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
