Avlocid MS Tablet/Suspension

Presentation: Avlocid MS is available as chewable tablets and as an oral suspension. The tablets typically contain Magaldrate BP 480 mg and Simethicone USP 20 mg. The suspension typically contains Magaldrate BP 480 mg and Simethicone USP 20 mg per 5 ml. Avlocid MS is a product of ACI Limited in Bangladesh. The tablets are usually available in blister packs, and the suspension in bottles of 200 ml.

Indications: Avlocid MS is indicated for the symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with:

• Heartburn
• Indigestion
• Dyspepsia
• Gastritis
• Peptic ulcers
• Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Hiatal hernia
• Sour stomach
• Flatulence, abdominal distension, and windy colic.

Dosage and Administration: Avlocid MS should be taken 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician.

• Tablet:
  • Adults and children over 12 years: 1-4 chewable tablets. The tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
• Suspension:
  • Adults and children over 12 years: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml).

Side Effects: Gastrointestinal side effects are uncommon with Avlocid MS. Occasionally, if an excessive amount is consumed, the following may occur:

• Diarrhoea
• Constipation
• Regurgitation

Precautions: Avlocid MS is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium and aluminium. It is also contraindicated in patients with impaired renal function.¹ 

Care should be taken in patients with decreased kidney function, hypophosphataemia, and in debilitated individuals. Avlocid MS should not be used in patients taking any form of Tetracycline. It may reduce the bioavailability or slow down the absorption of several drugs, including propranolol, isoniazid, prednisolone, and naproxen.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Magaldrate, one of the active ingredients in Avlocid MS, may be used during pregnancy if indicated; however, excessive doses should be avoided. Magaldrate may pass into breast milk but has not been reported to cause problems in nursing infants. Consult a healthcare professional before use.

Storage: Protect from light and moisture by storing below 30°C. Keep the medicine out of reach of children.
