Barbit 60

Presentation: Tablets containing Phenobarbital 60 mg.

Indications: Treatment of all types of seizures except absence seizures. May also be used for the treatment of insomnia and as a sedative.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage is individualized and varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's age and weight.

• Seizures:
  • Adults: Usual loading dose is 60-200 mg orally at bedtime. Maintenance dose is typically 60-100 mg daily.
  • Children: Loading dose is usually 15-20 mg/kg intravenously or intramuscularly. Oral maintenance dose is typically 3-5 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
• Sedation: Adults: 30-120 mg daily in divided doses.
• Insomnia: Adults: 100-320 mg at bedtime.

Follow physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common: drowsiness, dizziness, headache. Less common: confusion, agitation, irritability, nausea, vomiting, constipation. Rare: respiratory depression, skin rash.

Precautions: May be habit-forming. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Use caution with alcohol and other CNS depressants. May impair judgment and coordination; caution advised while driving or operating machinery. Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems, respiratory disease, or a history of substance abuse. May interact with many other medications. Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
