Indications

This cream is indicated for the topical treatment of various skin conditions that are responsive to corticosteroids and are also complicated by bacterial and/or fungal infections. Specifically, it is effective for:

  • Tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea corporis (ringworm).
  • Both acute and chronic eczema.

Composition

Each gram of the cream contains:

  • Betamethasone Dipropionate: 0.5 mg
  • Clotrimazole: 10 mg
  • Gentamicin Sulfate: 1 mg

Pharmacology

This cream's effectiveness comes from the combined actions of its three components:

  • Betamethasone Dipropionate: A corticosteroid that provides anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, and vasoconstrictive (blood vessel narrowing) effects.
  • Clotrimazole: A broad-spectrum antifungal that acts on the fungal cell membrane, causing it to leak and killing the fungus.
  • Gentamicin Sulfate: A broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic that provides highly effective topical treatment for skin infections caused by bacteria.

Dosage & Administration

Apply the cream gently to the affected skin areas twice daily. For the best results, apply it regularly. The duration of therapy can vary based on the extent and location of the infection, as well as the patient's response.

Interaction

Concomitant use with other nephrotoxic (kidney-damaging) drugs, including other aminoglycosides, vancomycin, and some cephalosporins, or ototoxic (ear-damaging) drugs like ethacrynic acid and furosemide, may increase the risk of toxicity.

Contraindications

This cream is contraindicated in patients with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of its components.

Side Effects

Adverse reactions are very rare and have included hypochromia (loss of skin color), burning, erythema (redness), and exudation (weeping of fluid).

Pregnancy & Lactation

Since the safety of topical corticosteroids during pregnancy has not been definitively established, the cream should only be used if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. It is recommended to decide whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, considering the importance of the drug to the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Do not use this cream with any other product containing corticosteroids.
  • Do not apply to the face and avoid contact with the eyes.
  • Avoid prolonged use, use on extensive areas, or use under an occlusive (airtight) dressing, open wounds, injured areas, exterior genital areas, and skin folds.

Therapeutic Class

This medication is classified as a Betamethasone & Combined preparation.
