Indications

This cream is indicated for the treatment of superficial infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. It is also useful for burns, wounds, ulceration, otitis externa, postoperative infections, neuro-dermatitis, and eczema. It can be used as an adjunct to systemic steroid therapy for certain types of pyoderma.

Pharmacology

This cream combines Betamethasone and Neomycin Sulfate.

• Betamethasone: An active topical corticosteroid that provides a rapid response in inflammatory skin conditions and is used to treat psoriasis-like diseases.
• Neomycin Sulfate: A topical, broad-spectrum, bactericidal aminoglycoside that is effective against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The preparation has effective penetration and uniform distribution, making it suitable for application in hairy or intertriginous (skin fold) areas and for treating wet skin ulcerations.

Dosage & Administration

• Adults: Apply a thin layer to the affected areas 3 to 4 times daily. For chronic conditions, the frequency of application should be gradually decreased until it is applied as infrequently as once a week.
• Children: Do not use on children under 1 year of age. A course of treatment should not exceed 5 days unless directed by a physician.

Interaction

No significant drug interactions have been reported with this combination.

Contraindications

This cream is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to any of its components.
• Otitis externa with a perforated eardrum.
• Skin lesions caused by viral or fungal infections.

Side Effects

The cream is generally well-tolerated. However, prolonged and high-dose use, especially with occlusive dressings, may cause Cushing's syndrome, acne, and thinning or dilatation of blood vessels.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This preparation should not be used extensively during pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Long-term continuous topical use should be avoided to prevent the development of resistant microorganisms. The cream should be used at the accurate dose and applied only to the infected areas.

Therapeutic Class

This cream is a combined aural steroid and antibiotic preparation.

Keep at a temperature below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
