Biocal-D

Presentation:Tablets containing Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).The specific strengths can vary, but common formulations include Calcium Carbonate 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU or 250 IU per tablet. The tablets are intended for oral administration and are often film-coated.Packaging typically consists of blister packs within a box.  

Indications:Indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency.Used in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, and tetany.May also be recommended as a supplement to ensure adequate intake of calcium and Vitamin D3 in the elderly, individuals with limited sun exposure, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and those with inadequate dietary intake. It is also used as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.  

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is one tablet once or twice daily, preferably with or after a meal to enhance calcium absorption, or as directed by a physician. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water.Dosage may be adjusted based on individual needs and the specific formulation.

Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, or stomach upset may occur in some individuals.High doses of calcium can lead to hypercalcemia in rare cases, with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination.

Precautions:Use with caution in individuals with hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, kidney stones, or kidney disease.Consult a physician before use if you have hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis, or are taking other medications, especially cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin), thiazide diuretics, or other calcium or Vitamin D supplements. Separate the intake of Biocal-D from iron-containing medications or certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones) by a few hours.  

Storage:Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
