Caberol 0.5 Tablet contains 0.5 mg of Cabergoline.

Indications: Caberol is a dopamine receptor agonist indicated for the treatment of:

  • Hyperprolactinemic disorders, both idiopathic and due to pituitary adenomas. It can inhibit physiological lactation (breast milk production), suppress pathological lactation, and treat prolactin disorders (galactorrhea, oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea, infertility).
  • Parkinson's disease (as adjunctive therapy with levodopa/carbidopa).

Dosage and Administration: The dosage is highly individualized and depends on the condition being treated and the patient's response. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of treatment. Some general guidelines:

  • Hyperprolactinemic Disorders: The initial dose is usually 0.25 mg twice a week. The dose may be increased gradually at monthly intervals based on prolactin levels and tolerability. The usual maintenance dose is 0.5 mg to 4.5 mg per week, administered in one or two doses per week.
  • Parkinson's Disease: The initial dose is typically 0.5 mg per day for the first two weeks, followed by weekly or biweekly increases of 0.5 to 1 mg per day. The usual maintenance dose is 2 to 6 mg per day.

Caberol tablets should be taken orally, usually with food to help reduce nausea. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Dizziness, vertigo
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Breast pain

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur, including:

  • Postural hypotension (low blood pressure upon standing)
  • Syncope (fainting)
  • Cardiac valvulopathy (heart valve problems) with long-term, high-dose use
  • Pulmonary fibrosis (scarring of the lungs) with long-term, high-dose use
  • Impulse control disorders (e.g., pathological gambling, hypersexuality, compulsive shopping, binge eating)
  • Hallucinations, confusion, psychosis

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially heart problems, high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, peptic ulcers, or a history of mental health disorders.
  • Cabergoline can cause dizziness and lightheadedness, especially upon standing. Rise slowly from sitting or lying down.
  • Be aware of the potential for impulse control disorders and discuss any unusual urges with your doctor.
  • Long-term, high-dose use may be associated with cardiac and pulmonary complications. Regular monitoring may be required.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive, or if you are breastfeeding.

Contraindications: Caberol is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Uncontrolled hypertension.
  • Hypersensitivity to cabergoline or any ergot derivatives.
  • History of cardiac valvular disease.
  • History of pulmonary, pericardial, or retroperitoneal fibrotic disorders.
  • For long-term treatment: evidence of cardiac valvulopathy as determined by pre-treatment echocardiogram.

Drug Interactions: Caberol can interact with various medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including:

  • Other dopamine agonists (e.g., bromocriptine, pramipexole, ropinirole)
  • Dopamine antagonists (e.g., metoclopramide, phenothiazines, butyrophenones)
  • Ergot alkaloids
  • Antihypertensive medications
  • Macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin)
