Calbostar 740 

Presentation: Each tablet contains Calcium Orotate INN 740 mg (as Calcium Orotate Dihydrate). Available in strips, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. May be used in conditions like osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, latent tetany, postmenopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis, juvenile osteoporosis, and drug-induced osteoporosis. Also used during pregnancy and lactation. May have a role in managing inflammatory diseases, weight control, mood swings, and cognitive enhancement.

Dosage and Administration: As an addition to the daily diet, 1-2 tablets are usually recommended with a meal, or as directed by a physician.

Side Effects: Common side effects include bloating and swelling in the abdomen. Infrequent side effects may include loss of appetite, upset stomach, constipation, nausea, vomiting, increased thirst/urination, weakness, and headache. Formation of kidney stones may occur rarely.

Precautions: Contraindicated in conditions like kidney stones, kidney disease, increased parathyroid gland activity, high amounts of calcium in urine or blood, and severe dehydration. Caution should be taken in patients with allergies, heart disease, pancreatic disease, sarcoidosis, or malabsorption syndrome. May interact with bisphosphonates, quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics, levothyroxine, and phenytoin; separate administration times may be needed. Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcemia.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 30°C.
