Caldil 500

Presentation:Caldil 500 is available as tablets, each containing 500mg of calcium carbonate.The tablets are typically white or off-white and may be round or oval in shape. They are usually supplied in strips or blister packs containing a specific number of tablets.

Indications: Caldil 500 is indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency in various conditions, including:

• Inadequate dietary calcium intake.
• Increased calcium requirements during periods of growth, pregnancy, and lactation. 
• Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis (a condition characterized by weak and brittle bones). 
• Management of hypocalcemia (low calcium levels in the blood) associated with conditions such as hypoparathyroidism.
• As a phosphate binder in patients with chronic kidney disease to help control elevated phosphate levels.
• As an antacid for the temporary relief of symptoms of acid indigestion, heartburn, and upset stomach.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Caldil 500 depends on the specific indication and the patient's individual needs.

• For Calcium Supplementation: Adults and children may take 1 to 2 tablets daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. It is generally recommended to take Caldil 500 with or after meals to optimize calcium absorption. 
• As an Antacid: Adults can take 1 to 2 tablets as needed for symptomatic relief, up to a maximum daily dose as recommended by a healthcare professional. The tablets can be chewed or swallowed with water.
• For Phosphate Binding (in chronic kidney disease):The dosage is determined by a physician based on individual phosphate levels and should be taken with meals to maximize phosphate binding.  

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects: Caldil 500 is generally well-tolerated when taken at recommended doses. However, some individuals may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances, such as:

• Constipation 
• Flatulence (gas)
• Bloating
• Nausea

In rare cases, especially with high doses or in patients with kidney problems, hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) may occur.Symptoms of hypercalcemia can include weakness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and confusion.  

Precautions: Exercise caution when using Caldil 500 in the following situations:

• Individuals with a history of kidney stones.
• Patients with hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine) or hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood). 
• Individuals with hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid glands).
• Patients with sarcoidosis.
• Individuals with cardiac disease or those taking cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin), as calcium may interact with these medications. 
• Concomitant use with thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
• Caldil 500 may interfere with the absorption of certain medications, such as tetracycline antibiotics and iron supplements.It is advisable to separate the administration of these medications by a few hours.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist about any existing medical conditions or medications you are currently taking before starting Caldil 500.

Storage: Store Caldil 500 tablets in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
