Candicon is a potent triazole antifungal used for serious, deep-seated fungal infections in patients aged 12 years and older.
📋 Key Indications
- Invasive Aspergillosis: Serious lung/systemic fungal infection.
- Candidiasis: Deep tissue infections (kidney, bladder, abdomen) and esophageal thrush.
- Rare Pathogens: Infections caused by Scedosporium or Fusarium species.
- Refractory Cases: For patients who do not respond to other antifungal therapies.
🥄 Dosage & Administration
Oral Intake: Must be taken at least 1 hour before or 1 hour after a meal.
- Adults (≥40 kg):
- First 24 hours: 400 mg every 12 hours.
- Maintenance: 200 mg twice daily.
- Adults (<40 kg):
- First 24 hours: 200 mg every 12 hours.
- Maintenance: 100 mg twice daily.
⚠️ Safety & Interactions
- Side Effects: Commonly includes blurred vision, headache, nausea, and abdominal pain.
- Drug Interactions: 🛑 Critical warning. Do not use with drugs like Terfenadine, Sirolimus, Rifampin, or Carbamazepine. It interacts with many medications processed by the liver (CYP450).
