Carben D (15'S)

Presentation: Tablets containing Calcium Carbonate BP equivalent to elemental Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 BP 200 IU. Available in strips of 15 tablets, manufactured by Benham Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, and tetany. Also used in parathyroid disease and as a calcium supplement to ensure adequate dietary intake in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, osteogenesis, tooth formation, and therapy with anti-seizure medications. May also be used as a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dosage is 2 tablets daily or 1 tablet twice daily. Carben D is best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption.

Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, increased urination, and constipation.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hyperthyroidism, renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Caution should be exercised in patients with pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
