Carlina 5

Presentation: Each tablet of Carlina 5 contains 5 mg of linagliptin.

Indications: Carlina (linagliptin) is indicated in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control. It can be used:

• As monotherapy:In patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications. 
• As combination therapy: In combination with other glucose-lowering medications, including metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin, when diet and exercise plus the single or dual therapy do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Carlina is 5 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food at any time of the day.

• When added to metformin, the dose of metformin should be maintained.
• When used in combination with a sulfonylurea, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. 
• No dose adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nose and throat)
• Cough
• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur, especially when used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin.
• Pancreatitis has been reported in some patients.

Precautions: Carlina is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reaction to linagliptin or any of its excipients, type 1 diabetes mellitus, or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution should be exercised when Carlina is used in combination with sulfonylureas, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
