Cavic-C Plus

Presentation:Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Lactate Gluconate USP 1000 mg, Calcium Carbonate BP 327 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) BP 500 mg, and Vitamin D3 400 IU (as Colecalciferol BP 4 mg).

Indications:Cavic-C Plus is indicated for:

  • As an adjunct to specific therapy for osteoporosis.
  • Increased demand for Calcium, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D suchas during pregnancy, lactation, periods of rapid growth (childhood, adolescence), and in old age.
  • In osteomalacia.
  • The prevention and treatment of Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency, especially in housebound and hospitalized elderly subjects.5
  • As an adjuvant in cold and influenza.
  • Postmenopausal syndromes.
  • Premenstrual symptoms.
  • In high body temperatures.
  • As an alkalizing agent in conditions with systemicacidosis.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and children above 7 years:1 effervescent tablet daily.
  • Children 3-7 years:Half an effervescent tablet daily.
  • The tablet should be dissolved in a glass of water before consumption. Dosage may be individualized based on age, sex, physiological conditions (pregnancy & lactation), and disease conditions, as directed by a physician.

Side Effects:The use of Calcium supplements has rarely given rise to mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, gastric pain, and diarrhea.Following the administration of Vitamin D supplements, occasional skin rash has been reported. Hypercalciuria and, in rare cases, hypercalcemia have beenobserved with long-term treatment of Vitamin D at high doses.

Precautions:Patients with mild to moderate renal failure or mild hypercalciuria should be supervised carefully, with periodic checks of plasma Calcium levels and urinary Calcium excretion. In patients with a history of renal stones, urinary Calcium excretion should be measured to exclude hypercalciuria. With long-term treatment, monitoring of serum and urinary Calcium levels and kidney function is advisable.Allowances should be made for Calcium and Vitamin D supplements from other sources.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation: Treatment with Cavic-C Plus during pregnancy and lactation should always be under the direction of a physician, considering the increased requirements for Calcium and Vitamin D and the availability of these agents from other sources. Overdoses of Vitamin D have shown teratogenic effects in pregnant animals.Vitamin D and its metabolites pass into breastmilk.

Contraindications:

  • Hypercalcemia (e.g., in hyperparathyroidism, Vitamin D overdosage, decalcifying tumors such as plasmocytoma, bone metastases).
  • Severe hypercalciuria.
  • Severe renal failure.
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the tablet.
