Cerox CV is a combination antibiotic. Cefuroxime kills bacteria, while Clavulanic Acid prevents bacteria from breaking down the antibiotic, making it effective against resistant strains.
Cerox CV is used for various bacterial infections:
Respiratory: Sinusitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia, and bronchitis.
Ear: Middle ear infections (Otitis Media).
Urinary & Skin: UTIs and skin structure infections (like impetigo).
Other: Bone/joint infections, Lyme disease, Typhoid fever, and Gonorrhea.
Tablets can be taken with or without food. Standard doses for adults (13+ years) include:
General Infections: 250 mg twice daily (b.i.d.) for 5–10 days.
Pneumonia/Severe Infections: 500 mg twice daily.
Typhoid Fever: 500 mg twice daily for 10–14 days.
Paediatric (3mo–12yrs): Dosing is weight-based (20–30 mg/kg/day) divided into two doses.
Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Contraindications: 🛑 Do not use if you are allergic to cephalosporins or have Pseudomembranous Colitis.
Interactions: Antacids may reduce absorption. Probenecid can increase the drug's concentration in your blood.
Pregnancy: Generally safe in later trimesters, but avoid in the first trimester unless essential.
Lactation: Small amounts pass into breast milk; monitor the infant for any reactions.
