💊 Cerox CV (Cefuroxime + Clavulanic Acid)
Cerox CV is a combination of a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic and a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This duo is highly effective against bacteria that have developed resistance to standard antibiotics.
This medication treats a broad spectrum of bacterial infections:
Respiratory: Pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, and bronchitis.
Ear & Skin: Otitis media (ear infection) and skin structure infections like impetigo.
Urinary & Systemic: UTIs, Bone/Joint infections, Septicemia, and Meningitis.
Special Cases: Early Lyme disease, Typhoid fever, and Gonorrhea.
The tablets can be taken with or without food. Standard guidelines for adults (13+ years) include:
General Infections: 250 mg twice daily (b.i.d.) for 5–10 days.
Severe Infections/Pneumonia: 500 mg twice daily.
Typhoid Fever: 500 mg twice daily for 10–14 days.
Pediatric (3mo–12yrs): Dosage is weight-based (20–30 mg/kg/day) divided into two doses.
Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and mild stomach pain.
Contraindications: 🛑 Do not use if you have an allergy to cephalosporins or a history of Pseudomembranous Colitis.
Interactions: Antacids (which reduce gastric acidity) can lower the effectiveness of the drug. Probenecid increases the drug's levels in the blood.
Pregnancy: Generally safe in later stages, though avoid in the first trimester unless essential.
Lactation: Small amounts pass into breast milk; monitor the infant for sensitivity or digestive changes.
