Chelova 500 Tablet

Presentation: Each tablet contains 500 mg of Deferasirox.

Indications:Chelova is used to treat chronic iron overload caused by frequent blood transfusions in patients with conditions like thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and myelodysplastic syndrome.It is also used to treat chronic iron overload in patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia syndromes.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose depends on the patient's body weight and the severity of iron overload. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water or other liquids, preferably at the same time each day, on an empty stomach or with a light meal, at least 30 minutes before food. For patients who have difficulty swallowing, the tablet may be crushed and mixed with soft foods like yogurt or applesauce immediately before use. The dose is adjusted by your doctor based on monthly monitoring of serum ferritin levels.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhea
• Nausea  
• Vomiting  
• Rash
• Increased liver enzymes  
• Increased creatinine levels

Less common side effects may include gastritis, edema, sleep disorder, pigmentation disorder, dizziness, and anxiety.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. Chelova is contraindicated in patients with eGFR less than 40 mL/min/1.73 m² and should be avoided in severe hepatic impairment. Dose adjustments may be needed for mild to moderate liver or kidney disease.
• Monitor renal and hepatic function and blood counts regularly during treatment.
• Avoid taking Chelova with aluminum-containing antacids.
• Use caution while driving or operating machinery if you experience dizziness.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Contraindications:Chelova is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to deferasirox or any of the excipients, creatinine clearance < 40 mL/min, or serum creatinine > 2 times the upper limit of normal. It should also not be used in patients with severe liver impairment.

Drug Interactions:Chelova can interact with various medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
