Ciprocin 0.30% Drop is a sterile eye and ear drop solution containing Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 0.30% (3 mg per ml). It is manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh.
Indications:
Ciprocin eye/ear drops are indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria in the following conditions:
Eye Infections:
- Corneal ulcers
- Bacterial conjunctivitis
- Blepharitis
- Keratitis
- Keratoconjunctivitis
- Dacryocystitis
- Prophylaxis of ocular infections (e.g., after removal of a foreign body or before/after ocular surgery)
Ear Infections:
- Otitis externa (infection of the outer ear canal)
- Acute otitis media
- Chronic suppurative otitis media
- Prophylaxis after ear surgery (e.g., mastoid surgery)
Dosage and Administration:
For Eye Infections:
- Corneal Ulcers: Instill 2 drops into the affected eye every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours, then 2 drops every 30 minutes for the remainder of the first day. On the second day, instill 2 drops hourly. On days 3 through 14, instill 2 drops every four hours. Treatment may be continued after 14 days if corneal re-epithelization has not occurred.
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Instill 1 or 2 drops into the conjunctival sac(s) every two hours while awake for two days and then 1 or 2 drops every four hours while awake for the next five days.
For Ear Infections:
- Instill 2-3 drops into the affected ear every 2-3 hours initially, reducing the frequency as the infection is controlled. Treatment should continue for at least 7 days.
Important Considerations:
- This medicine is for external use only (in the eyes or ears).
- Wash hands thoroughly before using.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
- Do not wear contact lenses during treatment for eye infections unless specifically directed by your doctor.
- Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if you start to feel better. Stopping early may allow the bacteria to continue to grow.
- If you are using other eye or ear medications, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between applications.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:
- Local burning or discomfort
- Stinging
- Itching
- Foreign body sensation
- Blurred vision (in the eye)
- Crusting of the eyelid margin (in the eye)
- Crystalline precipitates in the superficial portion of the corneal defect (in the eye)
- Bad taste following instillation
- Headache (when used in the ear)
- Ear pain or discomfort (in the ear)
Serious allergic reactions are rare but can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as rash, hives, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you are allergic to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics.
- Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
- Discontinue use at the first sign of a skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity reaction.
- Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Storage:
- Store below 30°C.
- Protect from light.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not use for more than one month after first opening the bottle.
