• Indication:

  • Treatment of major depressive episodes.

  • Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia.

  • Treatment of social anxiety disorder (social phobia)

  • Treatment of generalized anxiety disorder

  • Treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

• Pharmacology:

  • Citalam 5 is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).

• Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults: The usual starting dosage is 10 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily.

  • Panic disorder: Initial dose of 5 mg daily for the first week, increased to 10 mg daily. Maximum dose is 20 mg daily.

  • Social anxiety disorder: Initial dosage is 10 mg once daily. The dose may be decreased to 5 mg or increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily, depending on response.

• Contraindications

  • Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

  • Concomitant use with pimozide.

  • Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram.

• Side Effects:

  • Common side effects include nausea, insomnia, ejaculation disorder, drowsiness, increased sweating, and fatigue.
