Clenpic 10 

Presentation: Clenpic 10 is available as tablets, each containing Sodium Picosulfate BP 10 mg. Clenpic 10 is a product of Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Clenpic (Sodium Picosulfate) is a stimulant laxative indicated for:

• Short-term relief of occasional and chronic constipation.
• Bowel evacuation prior to diagnostic procedures (such as colonoscopy), surgery, or childbirth.

Dosage and Administration: Clenpic 10 tablets are for oral administration and are usually taken as a single dose at night to produce a bowel movement the following morning. It is recommended to start with the lowest effective dose.

• Adults and children over 10 years: 5-10 mg (½ to 1 tablet) once daily, usually at bedtime. The maximum daily dose should not be exceeded.
• Children aged 4-10 years: 2.5-5 mg (¼ to ½ tablet) once daily, usually at bedtime. The maximum daily dose should not be exceeded.
• Children under 4 years: Use only under medical supervision, typically 0.25 mg/kg body weight per day as an oral solution.

Clenpic should be taken at least 2 hours apart from other medications as it may interfere with their absorption. Prolonged use of laxatives is not recommended and may lead to dependence.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Clenpic (Sodium Picosulfate) may include:

• Abdominal discomfort, including pain and cramps
• Diarrhoea
• Nausea
• Vomiting

Less common side effects may include:

• Dizziness
• Syncope (fainting)
• Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., skin rash, itching)

Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance, particularly hypokalaemia (low potassium levels).

Precautions: Clenpic (Sodium Picosulfate) is contraindicated in patients with:

• Ileus or intestinal obstruction.
• Severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions (e.g., appendicitis).
• Acute inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).
• Severe dehydration.
• Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or any other component of the product.

Caution should be exercised in:

• Children under 4 years of age (use only under medical advice).
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women (use only if clearly needed and under medical advice, avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy).
• Patients with a history of alcoholism.
• Patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
• Elderly patients, who may be more susceptible to electrolyte imbalances.

The concomitant use of diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance. Concurrent use of antibiotics may reduce the laxative effect.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
