Co-Dopa 110

Presentation: Each tablet contains Levodopa BP 100 mg and Carbidopa BP 10 mg. Available in strips or blister packs, with the number of tablets per pack determined by the manufacturer in Bangladesh (e.g., UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd.). This combination is a standard formulation for managing Parkinson's disease symptoms.

Indications: Co-Dopa is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, helping to alleviate symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and postural instability. Levodopa is a precursor to dopamine, which is deficient in Parkinson's disease. Carbidopa is a dopa decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents the peripheral breakdown of levodopa, allowing more to reach the brain and be converted to dopamine.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Co-Dopa is highly individualized and must be determined by a registered medical practitioner. Initial doses are usually low and gradually increased to achieve optimal therapeutic effect while minimizing side effects. The total daily dose and frequency of administration will vary depending on the patient's response and tolerance. Co-Dopa tablets are administered orally and can be taken with or without food, although avoiding high-protein meals around the time of dosing may improve absorption. It is important to take the medication at regular intervals as prescribed.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Co-Dopa may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, and involuntary movements (dyskinesias). Other potential side effects can include confusion, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, and changes in blood pressure, particularly orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure upon standing). Patients should inform their doctor if they experience any persistent or bothersome side effects, as dosage adjustments may be necessary.

Precautions: Co-Dopa is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levodopa or carbidopa, narrow-angle glaucoma, and malignant melanoma. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, peptic ulcer, psychiatric disorders, or endocrine disorders. It should also be used with caution in elderly patients. Co-Dopa may interact with certain other medications, including MAO inhibitors and some antihypertensives. Patients should inform their doctor about all medications they are currently taking.

Storage: Store Co-Dopa 110 tablets in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
