Co-Dopa Plus 100 Tablet - (100mg Levodopa, 25mg Carbidopa, 200mg Entacapone)

Presentation: Each tablet of Co-Dopa Plus 100 contains 100 mg of Levodopa, 25 mg of Carbidopa, and 200 mg of Entacapone. It is typically available in strips of 10 tablets.

Indications: Co-Dopa Plus 100 is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with Parkinson's disease experiencing end-of-dose motor fluctuations who are not stabilized on levodopa/dopa decarboxylase (DDC) inhibitor treatment. It is a combination medicine that helps to relieve symptoms like tremors, muscle stiffness, and difficulty moving by increasing the level of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that controls movement.

Dosage and Administration: The optimal daily dose must be carefully determined by a physician through titration of levodopa for each patient. Patients should take only one tablet per dose. Co-Dopa Plus 100 tablets are taken orally, with or without food. However, it is generally advised to avoid high-protein meals and dairy products as they might interfere with the absorption of levodopa. Taking the medicine at the same time each day helps maintain a consistent level in the body. The maximum recommended daily dose of entacapone is 2,000 mg. This formulation (100mg/25mg/200mg) is usually prescribed for patients already treated with corresponding doses of standard-release levodopa/DDC inhibitor and entacapone.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Co-Dopa Plus may include:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Discoloration of urine
  • Dryness in the mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping)
  • Anxiety
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Involuntary muscle movement
  • Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing)
  • Sweating

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. Patients should inform their doctor immediately if they experience any unusual or severe symptoms, including chest pain, breathing problems, fast heartbeat, seizures, blood in vomit, black stool, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Precautions: Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver or kidney disease, heart problems, glaucoma, melanoma, or a history of psychosis. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as this medicine can cause dizziness and sleepiness. Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication without consulting your doctor. This medication may interact with other drugs, including certain antidepressants and antipsychotics. It is contraindicated with non-selective monoamine oxidase (MAO-A and MAO-B) inhibitors. The combination of levodopa/carbidopa/entacapone should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus, and breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
