Presentation:Each tablet contains Mesalazine BP 800 mg in a delayed-release formulation.Colasa is a brand name marketed by UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd.in Bangladesh. It is usually available in blister packs. The delayed-release coating helps to deliver the medication to the lower parts of the intestine.
Indications: Colasa (Mesalazine) is an anti-inflammatory drug indicated for the treatment of mild to moderately active ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It is also used for the maintenance of remission in these conditions.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage depends on the severity of the condition and the individual patient's response, as directed by a physician. Colasa 800 mg tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be chewed or crushed.
Side Effects:Common side effects may include headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and flatulence.Less common side effects can include vomiting, dizziness, and skin rash. Rarely, more serious side effects such as kidney problems or allergic reactions may occur.
Precautions: Colasa (Mesalazine) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mesalazine or any other salicylate. Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney or liver impairment and in patients with a history of allergic reactions to sulphasalazine. Kidney function should be evaluated before starting treatment and periodically during treatment.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Colasa should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Mesalazine can pass into breast milk, and caution should be exercised when administering to breastfeeding women.
