Coport M 500 

Presentation: Coport M 500 Tablet is a combination medicine containing Empagliflozin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg. It is presented as a tablet for oral administration and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Coport M 500 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellituswhen treatment with bothempagliflozin and metforminis appropriate. Empagliflozin isalso indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.  

Dosage and Administration:Thedosage of Coport M 500 should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommendeddaily dose of empagliflozin 25 mg and metformin 2000 mg. It is generally taken twice daily with meals to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.

• For patients not currently on metformin, the starting dose is typically empagliflozin 5 mg/metformin 500 mg twice daily, with gradual dose escalation as needed.
• For patients already on metformin, the recommended starting dose is empagliflozin 5 mg with their current metformin dose.
• Patients switching from separate tablets of empagliflozin and metformin can switch to Coport M 500 containing the same total daily doses of each component.

Renal function should be assessed prior to initiation and periodically thereafter. Coport M 500 is contraindicated in patients with an eGFR below 45 mL/min/1.73 m².

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Coport M 500 may include urinary tract infections, genital fungal infections, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and joint pain. Hypoglycemia can occur when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas. Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect associated with metformin.

Precautions: Coport M 500 is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 45 mL/min/1.73 m²), metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis), or known hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or metformin. It is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes. Caution should be exercised in patients with risk factors for lactic acidosis, a history of pancreatitis, and severe hepatic impairment. Renal function should be monitored regularly.

Storage: Store Coport M 500 tablets below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
