Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate calcium intake in childhood diet, rickets, pregnancy and lactation, elderly patients, and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.
Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is one tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water, preferably with or after a meal to ensure better absorption, or as directed by a physician. The dosage depends on the strength of the tablet and the individual's needs.
Side Effects: Rarely, mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, or upper gastrointestinal discomfort may occur. Hypercalcemia due to prolonged use has been rarely reported.
Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, hypercalcemia resulting from Vitamin D3 overdose, hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, severe renal insufficiency, severe hypercalciuria, and renal calculi. Use cautiously in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment or mild hypercalciuria, and monitor plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion periodically. Calcium supplements should be taken at a different time from iron supplements and certain antibiotics. May interact with cardiac glycosides, thyroxine, bisphosphonates, sodium fluoride, quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics, and thiazide diuretics.
Storage: Store at a temperature below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
