Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Available in strengths such as Calcium Carbonate 1250 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium 500 mg) with Vitamin D3 200 IU, or Calcium Carbonate 1500 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium 600 mg) with Vitamin D3 400 IU, in strips. Manufactured by DBL Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.
Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate USP (from Coral source) and Vitamin D3 USP (Cholecalciferol). The specific amount of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 will be mentioned on the product packaging.
Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiency. It is used in conditions such as osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia, tetany, parathyroid disease, and disorders of osteogenesis. Also used during pregnancy and lactation due to increased demand, during therapy with anti-seizure medications, and for the prevention and treatment of Calcium or Vitamin D3 deficiency, especially in housebound and institutionalized elderly patients. May also be used as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.
Dosage and Administration: One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by a physician. Taking it with a full stomach ensures better absorption.
Side Effects: Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may be irritating to the gastrointestinal tract and may cause constipation. Hypercalcemia is rarely produced by administration of Calcium alone but may occur when large doses are given to patientswith chronic renal failure.
Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with high levels of calcium or Vitamin D in the blood, kidney stones, and hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Caution should be exercised in immobilized patients with osteoporosis due to the increased risk of hypercalcemia. Monitoring is especially important in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics and in patients with a high tendency to calculus formation.In case of hypercalcemia or signs of impaired renal function, the dose should be reduced or the treatment discontinued.Should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment.
Storage: Store at a temperature below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
