Cortan 10

Presentation: Each tablet contains 10 mg of prednisolone. Cortan 10 tablets are typically [shape and color will vary by manufacturer, often white or off-white and round] and may be scored for dose adjustment. They are available in blister packs.  

Indications: Cortan 10 is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of conditions, including:

• Rheumatic Disorders:Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and others.  
• Allergic States:Bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, contact dermatitis, drug hypersensitivity reactions, and serum sickness.  
• Dermatologic Diseases:Pemphigus, bullous dermatitis herpetiformis, severe psoriasis, and others.  
• Endocrine Disorders:Primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia.  
• Respiratory Diseases:Symptomatic sarcoidosis, berylliosis, aspiration pneumonitis.  
• Hematologic Disorders: Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, acquired hemolytic anemia.
• Nephrotic Syndrome: To induce diuresis or remission of proteinuria.
• Gastrointestinal Diseases:Ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis.  
• Other:Certain neoplastic conditions, multiple sclerosis exacerbations, and immunosuppression in organ transplantation.  

Dosage and Administration:The initial dosage of Cortan 10 may vary from 5 mg to 60 mg per day depending on the specific disease being treated.This may be given in single or divided doses.Dosage should be individualized based on the patient's response and the severity of the condition. After a favorable response is observed, the dosage should be gradually reduced to the lowest effective maintenance dose. In certain conditions, alternate-day therapy may be used. The tablets should be swallowed with water and can be taken with or without food, although taking it with food may help to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Dosage in children is based on body weight and the severity of the condition.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, trouble sleeping, increased blood pressure, and increased blood sugar.Long-term use may lead to more serious side effects such as osteoporosis, muscle weakness, increased risk of infections, thinning of the skin, easy bruising, glaucoma, cataracts, and adrenal suppression.

Precautions: Cortan 10 is contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to prednisolone or any of its components. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart failure, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer disease, glaucoma, cataracts, psychiatric disorders, and active infections. It should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and only if the potential benefits outweigh the risksto the fetus or infant. Live vaccines should not be given to patients on high doses of corticosteroids.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
