Cyclid 5

Presentation: Each tablet contains Procyclidine Hydrochloride BP 5 mg.

Indications: Cyclid is indicated as adjunctive treatment in all forms of parkinsonian syndrome, including idiopathic (paralysis agitans), postencephalitic, and arteriosclerotic Parkinsonism. It is also used to control troublesome extrapyramidal symptoms induced by neuroleptic drugs, such as pseudoparkinsonism, acute dystonic reactions, and akathisia.

Dosage and Administration: The tablets are administered orally, preferably after meals.

• Parkinsonism: Initially 2.5 mg three times a day, then 5 mg three times a day, and occasionally 5 mg at bedtime. The dosage is adjusted as tolerated or until the total daily dose reaches 20 to 30 mg, dividedinto three or four doses. Lower doses may be required for elderly patients.
• Drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms: Initially 2.5 mg three times a day. The dosage is increased by 2.5 mg increments per day as needed and tolerated.

Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: At usual dosage levels, dryness of the mouth is generally the most common adverse effect. Occasionally, mydriasis (dilation of the pupil), blurred vision, and gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, constipation) may occur. Allergic reactions (e.g., rash) or muscular weakness may also occur rarely. High doses may cause vertigo, confusion, and hallucinations.

Precautions: Cyclid should be used with caution in children and geriatric patients. Caution is advised in patients with diarrhea, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma (especially narrow-angle), urinary retention, and hepatic or renal impairment. It should not be withdrawn abruptly. Patients with mental disorders may occasionally experience a precipitation of a psychotic episode when Cyclid is administered for the treatment of extrapyramidal side effects of neuroleptics.

Storage: Protect from light and moisture, store below 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.
