Cytomis 600 

Presentation:Each tablet of Cytomis 600 contains Misoprostol 600 mcg.Cytomis 600 is a product of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs. The tablets are typically white or off-white.

Indications: Cytomis (Misoprostol) is indicated for several uses, including:

• Prophylaxis of gastric and duodenal ulceration in NSAID users at high risk of complications.  
• Healing of established NSAID-induced gastric and duodenal damage.  
• Healing of gastric and duodenal ulcers in the absence of NSAID therapy.  
• Induction of labor.  
• Prevention and treatment of postpartumhaemorrhage.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Cytomis 600 varies depending on the indication:

• For reducing the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers:The recommended adult oral dose is 200 mcg four times daily with food.If this dose cannot be tolerated, a dose of 100 mcg can be used.Cytomis should be taken for the duration of NSAID therapy.  
• For benign gastric and duodenal ulceration and NSAID associated ulceration:800 mcg daily (in 2-4 divided doses) with breakfast or main meals and at bedtime; treatment should be continued for at least 4weeks and may be continued for up to 8 weeks if required.  
• For induction of labor: 25 mcg vaginally every 6 hours or 50 mcg orally every 4 hours, up to a maximum total dose of 200 mcg. Maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate, and uterine contractions should be monitored.
• For prevention of postpartum haemorrhage: 400 mcg to 600 mcg orally or rectally immediately following delivery of the child.
• For treatment of postpartum haemorrhage:600 mcg orally or 1000 mcg rectally.

Side Effects:Generally, Cytomis (Misoprostol) is well tolerated.The most frequent adverse effects involve the gastrointestinal tract and include:

• Diarrhoea  
• Abdominal pain  
• Dyspepsia
• Flatulence
• Nausea  
• Vomiting  

Other possible side effects include rashes and dizziness.The incidence of diarrhoea may be minimized by administering the drug after a meal and at bedtime and by avoiding concomitant administration with a magnesium-containing or other laxative antacid.  

Precautions:  Cytomis (Misoprostol) is contraindicated in anyone with a history of allergy to prostaglandins and is also contraindicated in pregnancy.  

Caution should be taken in patients with renal impairment, although routine dosage adjustment is not usually needed. Dosage can be reduced if the 200 mcg dose for ulcer prevention is not tolerated.  

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Misoprostol is contraindicated during pregnancy due to its abortifacient properties. It should not be used in women of reproductive age unless the patient requires NSAID therapy and is at high risk of developing gastric or duodenal ulceration or complications and is using effective contraception.  

Cytomis should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the drug has cleared from the mother's system. Consult your doctor for advice.

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
