D-Toin 100

Presentation: Tablets containing Phenytoin Sodium 100 mg.

Indications: Treatment and prevention of seizures, including generalized tonic-clonic seizures and seizures occurring during or after neurosurgery. May also be used as a short-term substitute for oral phenytoin when oral administration is not possible.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage is individualized. Adults: Initially 3-4 mg/kg daily as a single dose or in divided doses, or 150-300 mg daily, gradually increased if necessary up to 600 mg daily. Maintenance: 200-500 mg daily. Children: Initially 5 mg/kg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Maintenance: 4-8 mg/kg daily in divided doses (maximum 300 mg daily). May be taken with food. Follow physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common: rash, headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, slurred speech, vertigo, confusion, nervousness, constipation, tremor, altered walking. May cause swollen gums and affect oral hygiene.

Precautions: Inform physician of any allergies, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, heart problems, or porphyria. May interact with many other medications. Avoid alcohol. May decrease alertness and affect vision; caution advised while driving or operating machinery. Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not stop taking suddenly.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
