Danzol 200 (Capsule)

Presentation: Each capsule contains Danazol BP 200 mg. Available in strips.

Indications: Danzol is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Endometriosis amenable to hormonal management.
  • Symptomatic treatment of severe pain and tenderness associated with benign fibrocystic breast disease in patients unresponsive to simple measures.
  • Prevention of attacks of angioedema of all types (cutaneous, abdominal, laryngeal) in males and females.
  • Menorrhagia.
  • Gynecomastia.
  • Preoperative thinning of the endometrium before hysteroscopic endometrial ablation.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage should be individualized based on the condition being treated and the patient's response. Therapy should be initiated during menstruation, if applicable.

  • Endometriosis: Usually 200 to 800 mg daily in two divided doses, adjusted to achieve amenorrhea. Usual duration is 6 months, and may be extended up to 9 months in some cases.
  • Benign Fibrocystic Breast Disease: Usually 100 to 400 mg daily in two divided doses, adjusted according to response, for 3 to 6 months.
  • Hereditary Angioedema: Initial dosage is 200 mg two or three times a day. After a favorable response, the dosage may be decreased.
  • Menorrhagia: 200 mg once daily for up to 3 months.
  • Gynecomastia: 400 mg daily in up to four divided doses for 6 months. For adolescents, 200 mg daily, increased to 400 mg if no response after 2 months.
  • Preoperative thinning of the endometrium: 400 to 800 mg daily in up to four divided doses for 3 to 6 weeks.

Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include weight gain, acne, changes in voice (hoarseness, deepening), hirsutism (increased facial or body hair), decreased breast size, menstrual disturbances (spotting, changes in cycle, amenorrhea), vaginal dryness, flushing, headache, nausea, and mood changes. Less common but potentially serious side effects include thromboembolic events, benign intracranial hypertension, and liver dysfunction.

Precautions: Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, porphyria, thromboembolic disorders, undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding, and hypersensitivity to danazol. Use with caution in patients with pre-existing cardiac, hepatic, or renal impairment, epilepsy, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, migraine, or lipoprotein disorders. Effective non-hormonal contraception should be used during treatment. Inform your doctor if signs of virilization occur.
