Daomin 500

Presentation: Each tablet of Daomin 500 contains 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride.

Indications: Daomin (metformin hydrochloride) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary management and exercise alone do not result in adequate glycemic control.  

• In adults, Daomin may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin. 
• In children from 10 years of age and adolescents, Daomin may be used as monotherapy or in combination with insulin.A reduction of diabetic complications has been shown in overweight type 2 diabetic adult patients treated with metformin as first-line therapy after diet failure.Daomin is also sometimes used off-label for managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women.

Dosage and Administration:The usual starting dose for adults is 500 mg twice a day or 850 mg once a day, given with meals.Dosage increases should be made gradually based on blood glucose response, usually in increments of 500 mg weekly or 850 mg every 2 weeks, up to a maximum of 2000 mg per day, given in divided doses. Some patients may require a maximum daily dose of 2550 mg. For children above 10 years, the starting dose is 500 mg once or twice daily, with a maximum of 2000 mg per day in divided doses.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite, particularly at the start of treatment.A metallic taste may also occur. Long-term use may be associated with vitamin B12 deficiency.Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect.  

Precautions: Daomin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metformin, severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, and conditions associated with tissue hypoxia. Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal impairment, heart failure, and liver disease. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Renal function should be assessed before initiating Daomin and regularly thereafter.

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
