Daomin 850 

Presentation: Each tablet of Daomin 850 contains 850 mg of Metformin Hydrochloride BP. It is available in strips. The tablets have specific shapes and markings depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (ACME Laboratories Ltd.).

Indications: Daomin (metformin) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin. In children from 10 years of age and adolescents, Daomin may be used as monotherapy or in combination with insulin. It is also sometimes used in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose of Metformin is 500 mg twice a day or 850 mg once a day, given with meals. Dosage increases should be made gradually based on blood glucose levels and tolerability, up to a maximum daily dose of 2000 mg in divided doses. For those requiring additional glycemic control, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 2550 mg per day, usually taken three times a day with meals. It is usually taken orally with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Follow your doctor's specific instructions.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. These are often transient and may subside with continued use. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. A rare but serious side effect is lactic acidosis, requiring immediate medical attention.

Precautions: Daomin (metformin) is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to metformin. It is not usually recommended in patients with moderate renal impairment (eGFR 30-45 mL/min/1.73 m²). Caution should be exercised in patients with liver disease, heart failure, and excessive alcohol intake. Temporary discontinuation may be required before surgery or certain medical procedures involving iodinated contrast media. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may increase the risk of side effects.
